State what you learnt from the module, making reference to two objectives
of the module, and cite content and exercises from the module to illustrate
your answer. (250 words)
In module 3 I learnt about e-business and what makes a product suitable
for sale on the Internet. I learnt about how the Internet has changed businesses
and how new organisations will arise from it. I learnt about the social implications
of shopping online and about the new communities and currencies that may
arise
One objective of this module was to ‘appreciate some of the different factors
which make a product successful online' [1]. I achieved this objective through
reading the course material and looking at the ES test in which products
and services can be evaluated to determine their suitability for sale online.
Another test for determining online suitability is the ‘richness vs. reach
model’. This model evaluates the
richness
and reach
of an online site compared to its traditional counterpart. The exercise
- Looking at richness and reach
developed the use of this model and confirmed my understanding.
From this module I also learnt to 'produce a simple concept proposal for
an online organization' [1], which was an objective of this module. My concept
proposal was for an online x-stitch company in which customers could order
a unique x-stitch pattern from a picture they had uploaded. The exercise
in which this proposal was developed was exercise 4.6
Developing a Concept Proposal
.
I learnt how the Internet has changed business practices with some businesses
restructuring to include an online side, some going totally online and, somehow,
some are continuing in the traditional way with no online access and are
still succeeding.
