Module 3 website analysis - A Significant Technology
In part 1 you are required to find one website for each
module that would be an additional suitable resource for future students.
This should not be a site that is already provided in the course material,
but rather one that you locate yourself. You should produce an analysis for
each of theses sites on separate pages. Each page should be no more than
500 words. The analysis will include:

[Accessed 01 September 2003]. Site description The Cisco web site is a massive web site containing information on
the many subjects of the companies networking expertise. The initial welcome
page offers information on business solutions, network solutions, technologies,
technical support and information about Cisco. There are news events, resource
links and a spotlight section for new solutions.
The technologies section is in-depth and informative. The links have an
introduction leading to more technical descriptions. The IPSec section for
instance details everything from a simple description to configuration and
deployment. You are invited to learn more about IPSec through technical documents,
presentations and other related links.
Navigation of the site is through hyperlinks. There are hyperlinked menu
bars at the top, down the left hand side, at the bottom and in the main
text. There is also a search engine, a Map/Help section and a feedback page
for contacting Cisco with your comments.
The style, writing and presentation are excellent. It is written so everyone
can understand, with explanations where necessary. The presentation is colourful,
well thought out, lots of pictures where appropriate and each page seems
to be slightly different so you don't get bored. Site usefulness for T171 students
IPSec provides security for transmission of sensitive information over
the Internet. I feel this is a significant technology as it allows secure
Internet purchases. When we submit credit card details on the Internet they
are transmitted through secure channels so our details are kept safe. This
technology has allowed confidence of the Internet to grow and for our purchases
to be secure.
This site is relevant for T171 students as it explains all of the key
technologies and technological issues involved in e-business. There is a
whole section on
E-Business Solutions
answering any manner of questions. The site was very useful for me during
the course especially the
Web Marketing Overview
indicating the benefits and solutions for companies starting up.
How the site relates to the course material
This site is relevant to Module 3 as it contains information on key e-business
concepts and explains the benefits for a company/organization of being online.
This allows a T171 student to discuss the wider implications of e-business
and to know the technologies involved in developing an e-business.
The site perspective is purely from the company's point of view. They are
advertising their products and offering information to encourage us to buy.
They offer information on past successes and offer help with technical support.
My overall opinion of the site is that it contains a staggering amount
of information on networking and e-business. The site is easy to use, all
the links work correctly and anything you cannot find immediately you can
type in the search engine and be presented with several options for exploration.
I like the site and have used it many times.
