The Birds
Hello
I have found a potential disadvantage of using computer conferencing for
online learning just recently in that I have almost missed this online group
discussion. I was not looking in the right place for the tutorial to start
and I was actually looking for something else on FirstClass when I noticed
new messages in the conference.
So, my potential disadvantage is that if students are not aware of the online
learning time and place, they could miss it altogether. Having said that this
situation can also occur if it were a classroom meeting that was missed having
got the time and place wrong, but in the classroom situation the notes for
the lesson could be passed on. If the online conference is missed however,
marks are lost that cannot be regained.

Hi
As a suggestion as to how this disadvantage could be overcome, maybe the
answer is to be online a lot more often and have a topic of discussion that
is interesting for everyone. Our group conference creating the web page for
Graham Moore I feel came together really well and quickly, it seemed that
we were online constantly. I must admit I was online a lot more often during
the web page creation conference, we actually created something, I had more
enthusiasm for it than this one as I did not enjoy reading the Dewar paper.
