Asbestos roof tiles to be replaced with light concrete tiles. Needed to put in a building notice and have the building inspector inspect the job on completion.
27 Feb 2008. Scaffolding goes up around both bungalows ready for the roofers to begin re-roofing both properties.
Re-cladding the gable-end & New fascia and soffits

26 Feb 2008. Work starts replacing the Gable-end and Fascia and soffits first.
28 Feb 2008. Gable end is reclad and the roofers start stripping off the old tiles and battens. I have to say goodbye to my own roof patching, from when the chimneys were removed.

29 Feb 2008. The roofers have stripped half the tiles off, laid the new breathable felt and re-battened ready for tiling. Also, on the same day, the tiles arrived and are craned in close to both bungalows.

Both properties stripped of tiles, this night it snowed!! A New breathable felt covering is laid and re-battened.

Disposal of the asbestos tiles

Due to the new European rules the disposal of asbestos now costs a fortune.
Contacted a firm that would dispose of the waste quickly and easily. For the two properties the tiles amounted to 2.2 tons of hazardous waste.
